So, Who's This Korey Guy?

I guess if there was just one single way I could describe myself, it would be that I have a passion for helping people in ways that I truly think I can help them in. I know quite a bit about computing and bicycles. And I have a knack for organizing people and inspiring them.

Where I Have Been And Where I Am Headed

Well, I went to college for electronics. But shortly after that, I saw that the world of computers was more fun, had more variety, and was in high demand. So I started my computing career as a web developer, where I learned a whole lot about best practices in database driven web systems. In my spare time, I lead a local Linux users' group, and helped put together presentations and other events. I also dabbled in starting a web hosting company, a web programming company, a computer education company, and various other business ideas. Since then I have taught computing courses, worked for an automotive accounting software company, a transformer manufacturer, and now a university. My hobbies include cycling, hanging out with my family, and helping my neighbors with computing issues and bicycle repair.

This year I turned 30 years old, which marks the end of the first decade of attempting to make my mark in the world. Oh dear.

Probably one of the best ways to decide where you're headed in life is to ask yourself what truly gets you up in the morning, what other people love about you, what you love doing for other people, etc. Usually this all depends on what kind of person you are. I took the Myers-Briggs test recently and it said I was an ESFJ which is also known as a "Provider". From the Wikipedia page, here's the summary:

  • E - Extraversion preferred to Introversion: ESFJs often feel motivated by their interaction with people. They tend to enjoy a wide circle of acquaintances, and they gain energy in social situations (whereas introverts expend energy).
  • S - Sensing preferred to iNtuition: ESFJs tend to be more concrete than abstract. They focus their attention on the details rather than the big picture, and on immediate realities rather than future possibilities.
  • F - Feeling preferred to Thinking: ESFJs tend to value personal considerations above objective criteria. When making decisions, they often give more weight to social implications than to logic.
  • J - Judgment preferred to Perception: ESFJs tend to plan their activities and make decisions early. They derive a sense of control through predictability.

Well, this means I'm going to make a concerted effort to reach out to you, give you some concrete information, be considerate of your personal needs, and help you make plans for the future!

I feel that this is surprisingly accurate of my personality and really explains why I do the the things I do. I like reaching out to people who need help, I love learning about personalities and passions, and I'm really insane about organizing, managing, and planning. I think my unique personality makes me especially tuned to being a Personal Computing Needs Implementer (I just made that title up).
